Easter is said to be the most important day in the Christian calendar. The Easter Rebirth, the resurrection of Christ. Is it about the triumph of life over death? Is it the chance of a new existence? A better existence. A faith.
I don’t really know much about that. I’m not a religious man, more stoic than atheist, more Buddhist than Jewish. But I do have faith.
Faith in bright yellow daffodils rising through frozen wastelands for the forgotten sky. Faith in new life breaking free from shelled cocoons, fluffy on unsteady feet, innocent and blinded by the light of a new dawn. Faith in the taste of sweet chocolate bringing a fleeting moment of joy to a child’s bitter lips. Faith that the good in humanity always outweighs the bad.
I’m no Christian, I’m certainly no Jesus. I’m barely a Life Guide, humble and human. But I look for the Easter rebirth every day. Within myself and in the hearts of those around me, shrivelled in despair or swollen with love, and everything in between.
To me, Easter is so much more than just painted eggs and fancy hats. It’s a chance to open the windows and clean house. A chance for change, to sprout and grow, something new and different, better and beautiful. It starts with a flower opening its petals, searching for light and warmth, on a cold spring day.
Easter. Today and every day. There waiting for every newborn to open their eyes wide, to look for what we cannot see, to listen to what we cannot hear. Expand your lungs with fresh air and fill it with the wonder of a life reborn. A new day.
Happy Easter!
